The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been in Singapore since 1883 as a lay Catholic mission.  The Society of St Vincent de Paul (National Council of Singapore) [SSVP] was later established as a registered charity in 1961.

SSVP befriends and journeys with more than 3,000 poor and marginalised individuals, regardless of race, nationality and religion. We call them our Friends In Need (FIN) and we bring them hope to lead resilient and dignified lives for a better future.

We provide assistance to:

  • Singles, couples, families with children and the elderly
  • The poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged faced with life challenges including interpersonal, family, matrimonial, financial, housing, employment, education issues

Programmes and services include:

  • Befriending and home visits; to have a better understanding of the assistance required so we may provide the needed vital support needed
  • Provisions and rations; food / groceries, household necessities and ration vouchers as well as milk and diapers etc.
  • Information and resources; to help FINs contact relevant organisations including social service and government agencies for assistance and follow-up
  • Financial aid; monetary assistance, help with financial and budget planning
  • Educational aid; tuition and mentoring, Tertiary (ITE/Poly/Uni) Education Bursary, awards, provision of education-related supplies
  • Family and community activities; to help ease the pressures within families and communities and manage isolation for those who are lonely and marginalised with organised activities and excursions
  • Special visits to vulnerable groups, including homes for the elderly, dormitories etc.
  • Others; including emergency housing aid, medical aid, transport aid, funeral aid etc.
  • SSVP Shop; thrift shop that offers quality and affordable brand new and preloved items
