On Wednesday, 1 August, 18 new staff from Caritas Singapore and 8 member organisations spent a day of learning and sharing as they began their journey as a part of the social mission arm of the Catholic Church.
Ms Genevieve Koh (Operations and Programmes Manager) and Ms Gail Ng (Special Projects, and secretariat to Caritas Young Adults) led the happy troop during the day-long Induction programme at Agape Village (AV).
Staff at the induction learnt how Caritas Singapore and all the member organisations conduct programmes and services to offer holistic care to the individuals and families who turn to us for assistance.
They also learnt how to leverage on Caritas in areas such as volunteering, formation, and renting spaces at AV for seminars, talks and events. A tour around AV introduced all to the programmes and services offered at AV through Caritas and the 14 member organisations co-located at AV.
It was also good to hear from the newish staff on their work and their thoughts and feelings about being part of Caritas.
A personal sharing showed how the induction programme served as a reminder and an affirmation for many who took the call to work within the Caritas family: “We can do small things with great love”.
Genevieve shared, “This new team of peers appreciated the interaction with member organisations based at AV. Seeing faith in action on the ground is inspiring and motivating.”
All staff were also introduced to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and Principles of Service. They had some time for reflection and sharing with each other on how they can live out these principles in their lives and work.
Gail added, “When we conduct the induction programme, we see how by spending time meeting and interacting with other member organisations, each person goes back with knowledge of the social mission, as well as counterparts who they can build healthy working relationships with.”
Caritas Singapore induction programme is held twice a year at AV, in the heartlands of Toa Payoh Lorong 8.
